From housing to shared responsibility: Wellcee launches public welfare initiative with Shanghai’s “Cat Island”
As a model platform under the Shanghai Three-Year Action Plan for Civilized Pet Ownership (2023–2025), City Cat Island has adopted a co-governance approach combining government guidance, social collaboration, and public participation. It has been officially recognized as an important platform for urban stray cat management and adoption advocacy in Shanghai.
Converted from a former kindergarten, City Cat Island now provides long-term shelter for more than 300 injured, abandoned, or adoptable cats. In addition to daily rescue and care, the site also hosts public education activities aimed at promoting the proper placement of stray animals and raising awareness of responsible pet ownership.
In November, Wellcee donated 160 kilograms of cat food and RMB 5,000 to support the island’s daily operations as well as the treatment and rehabilitation of injured cats. The company also organized a one-day volunteer activity, during which Wellcee employees visited the site to assist with routine work including building cat shelters, cleaning the environment, and sorting supplies.

Wellcee’s founder said that as ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles become increasingly integrated into the strategic development of internet companies, the platform also hopes to incorporate public welfare into its long-term operating framework, advancing collaboration among businesses, users, and local communities.
